Samuel Luke Ault was born and raised in London, England. Hailing from a family of skilled furniture makers, bakers and drapers, Samuel has a notable technical ability that was honed studying Fine Art at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Wales, where he earned his BA in Painting.
In his professional life, Samuel has worked at some of the most highly regarded institutions dedicated to the acquisition and preservation of art. Years spent at the National Portrait Gallery, London in addition to Christie’s and Bonham’s auction houses respectively, Samuel has had the opportunity to experience and in some cases handle, some of the world’s most revered masterpieces in person. This exposure created a natural evolution in the style and content of Samuel’s art.
An avid animal lover, Samuel has exhibited at the David Attenborough Society of Wildlife Artists at the Mall Galleries, London. It was here that his detailed, almost photographic animal portraiture first garnered attention. After moving to Southern California, he was struck by the rugged beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains and coastline. Thus began a love affair with a looser style to capture these phenomenal local landscapes.
Samuel continues to paint and follow in the tradition of the Southern California Impressionists, inspired by nature’s beauty and creatures alike. Samuel currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Ciera and daughter, Bonnie, who has inherited her father’s love of art.
